INDEPENDENT LIVING THROUGH AFFORDABLE HOUSING – A NEW INITIATIVE
It is this reality – and the many requests of individuals participating in our programs - that have encouraged Community Options to launch a new housing initiative here in San Diego.

The San Diego program will involve three different approaches:

  • Helping our clients locate and move into affordable housing;
  • Working closely with city officials in local municipalities to locate affordable housing and to dedicate a percentage of the low-income housing the city builds to people with disabilities;
  • Using Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds or other funds to develop and build a housing complex in San Diego County for people with disabilities.

The funds received will be used to hire a staff or consultant to assess the role Community Options should play in the affordable housing arena in San Diego County.
