Dear Friends:
Welcome to Employment & Community Options, a non-profit organization headquartered in San Diego, dedicated to providing low-income adults with developmental disabilities new opportunities to lead fulfilling lives through employment, life-skills training and independent-living services. 2010 commemorates our 25th anniversary of providing high-quality community service throughout California. I invite you to join us in celebrating a quarter-century of accomplishments and significant milestones with a series of events that showcase our effective services, devoted staff and talented program participants.
Employment & Community Options offers a wide diversity of programs and services for low-income adults with developmental disabilities such as autism, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other severe cognitive disabilities. The population we serve is faced with a myriad of challenges that include low income, limited access to services, and various degrees of social misunderstanding. Through our 100% community-based work model, we foster interactive participation with businesses and the general public rather than isolate program participants in a sheltered environment.
We are proud of the profound community impact we have made thus far in San Diego, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Alameda and San Bernardino Counties. As our programs continue to expand statewide, we realize that we are part of something bigger -- social equality for all. Employment & Community Options is a recognized leader in connecting businesses that need reliable workers with low-income adults looking to secure meaningful work. More than 1,600 people are served on an annual basis with some individuals staying employed at a single job for 15 years. Thousands of lives have already been transformed, and we strive to continue that upward trend over the next 25 years, beginning with your support.
Similar to many other non-profit organizations, Employment & Community Options’ state and federal funding has been drastically reduced, and the budget cuts continue. Our organization is facing a critical demand for philanthropic donations, which must be met in order to ensure the longevity of our exceptional programs and services. The upcoming 25th anniversary celebration will include a series of events to assist in raising vital funds which enrich the lives of this vulnerable population that receive little or no financial support or emotional guidance otherwise.
